British Fancy Dress Party
Benidorm • Costa Blanca
This is more than just an event – it is a cultural phenomenon that reshapes Benidorm every year. The British Fancy Dress Party is widely recognized as the largest costume party in Europe, attracting between 30,000 and 50,000 participants from across the globe.
The tradition began over a quarter of a century ago when Manolo, the owner of the iconic Sinatras bar, decided to offer British tourists a special celebration to mark the end of the season. Today, held every Thursday following the city’s official Fiestas Mayores Patronales, the streets of Rincon de Loix transform into a stage of unbridled creativity and joy.
Event Highlights & Program
The Grand Costume Parade
The day’s climax typically begins around 3:00 PM. Calle Gerona transforms into the “Golden Mile” of the carnival. Spectacular floats pass through the city, each representing different themes – from historical battles to scenes from the latest cinematic hits. This is where you will witness the most elaborate, multi-person costume constructions.
The Heart of the Party: English Square
The epicenter of the madness is the “English Square” (Mallorca and Lepanto streets). Local venues, such as Morgan Tavern, Sinatras, and Western Saloon, host free concerts, tribute acts, and world-class drag queen shows. The atmosphere is incredibly inclusive – a celebration where the boundaries of age and nationality disappear.
Contests & Gastronomy
Many bars organize “Best Dressed” competitions with attractive prizes. It has also become a tradition to serve complimentary snacks – including giant pans of paella – to those who have put effort into their costumes. The festivities start early in the morning and continue until the break of dawn the following day.
Location & Navigation
The event is not confined to a single spot but pulses throughout the Rincon de Loix district. The main arteries closed to vehicle traffic are:
Calle Mallorca
Calle Lepanto
Calle Cuenca

Practical Information
Dress Code: While there is no formal requirement, those without costumes are a rare sight. Local costume shops in Benidorm offer thousands of options if you prefer not to pack your outfit in your luggage.
Transportation: Moving around Rincon de Loix by taxi is virtually impossible on the day of the event. Walking is the best option, or use public transport to reach the outskirts of the district.
Weather: November on the Costa Blanca can be deceptive. While temperatures can exceed 20°C in the sun, they drop significantly after sunset—plan your costume accordingly.
Safety: The event is known for its peaceful and joyous nature. However, given the large crowds, standard precautions in public places are advised.
