Benidorm 2026: Record-Breaking April Signals a Historic Summer

Benidorm has officially returned to the top of Spain’s tourism podium. The latest data published by the hotel association Hosbec leaves no room for doubt: the first half of April 2026 concluded with an 80.7% occupancy rate, marking the best start to a season in a decade. The city, often dubbed the “New York of the Mediterranean,” has become a magnet—particularly for tourists from the United Kingdom.

The Return of the “British Invasion”

The most striking fact in the Hosbec report is the nationality breakdown of the guests. For the first time in years, the number of UK tourists has crossed the magic threshold of 50% of all bookings. A stable economic climate and the strengthened purchasing power of the pound have made Benidorm the “first choice” option for the British.

  • United Kingdom: >50%
  • Spain: ~38% (increasingly choosing Costa Blanca for short weekend city breaks).
  • Other Markets: 12% (with dynamic growth in the Dutch, Belgian, and Polish markets).

Why is Benidorm Winning?

Experts point to three main success factors this year:

  • Weather Guarantee: While Northern Europe struggles with a rainy spring, Benidorm offers a steady 22-24°C and nearly cloudless skies.
  • Events Calendar: A concentration of events, such as gastronomic festivals (Tuna Days) and major sporting events (Spanish U-12 Championships), effectively attracts diverse tourist profiles.
  • Modernization: Investments in infrastructure, new promenades in the Poniente district, and modern Smart City management systems are shifting Benidorm’s perception from a budget resort to a modern tourism metropolis.

Forecasts for May and Summer

All signs indicate that the upcoming May long weekend could be the first in years where most hotels hang “Completo” (No Vacancy) signs on their doors. Current booking momentum suggests that occupancy in May could approach 95%.

City authorities and the service sector are already increasing beach cleaning frequency and the number of tourist police patrols to ensure safety for the record number of guests. Benidorm is proving that, despite the passing years, its tourism model is not only crisis-resistant but is currently experiencing a second youth.
